This was the final project done in an 'Online Advertising and Marketing' course. This project was a great way of wrapping up the course by allowing us to put together most of the things we've learned throughout the term, and develop our own marketing campaign. Working as a group gave us the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work together on a campaign with a team in a real-life setting. The task of delegating responsibilities, organizing team meetings, and making sure each member of the group stays on track throughout the development process are all skills which will be beneficial in an actual workplace. The project also required us to create a campaign for a real, existing client. This set limitations in terms of opportunities and budgetwhich the group had to manage with, and work our way around. Again, this made the project more realistic and helped us develop skills that will come in handy during actual campaign development.
What I found challenging about this project was putting it all together during a short period of time -- about a week or two. Due to the busy schedules of the team members, meetings were at times difficult to arrange, and putting together a presentation for the project was done pretty "last minute". This however helped us exercise the skill of working under pressure and scheduling time effectively while working with a team. With combined team effort, we managed to get everything done on time, and reached our goal in terms of level of quality and preparation for the presentation.
I enjoyed getting the opportunity to develop a campaign for an actual client and found the experience quite useful. Something which I would have changed about this project would be the time constraint. Instead of rushing everything at the end, I would have preferred if the project was broken down into steps, and stretched out over the length of the term, so that our campaign development would be more thorough. With more time on our hands, we could have attempted to convince the client to actually implement our plan and then we could have tracked the results, and included this in our campaign report. I believe the experience would have been more rewarding in that case because not only would we have been in charge of thinking up strategies, but we could also have the opportunity to put our plan into action and observed the results.
All in all, this project was still a good learning experience with realistic limitations and requirements. Developing strategies for the campaign and working closely with the client in the organization of the visuals for the presentationencouraged me to try and work with the client to implement the campaign (and track the results) on my own time.
